1. What is this app about?

BetterLocale Crash is a macOS app for analyzing, evaluating, and documenting crash reports for Apple platforms. The app is aimed at developers and technical users and is designed so that all crash data is fundamentally processed and stored locally on your device.

BetterLocale Crash operates without its own provider servers. Analysis is performed locally or optionally via external AI services selected by you.

2. What data does the app process?

BetterLocale Crash does not automatically or systematically process personal data.

The app processes only content that you import or create yourself, in particular:
• Crash reports
• Stack traces
• Analysis results
• Tickets, evaluations, or support texts

Crash reports may contain personal or sensitive information, for example:
• App names
• Bundle identifiers
• Device information
• File paths or internal class names

Responsibility for the contained data lies with you.
Please do not import crash data that you are not allowed to process or that contains confidential information, unless this is necessary.

3. Where is your data stored?

All crash data, analyses, and derived content are stored locally on your device.
• No automatic transmission to provider servers takes place.
• There is no cloud synchronization by BetterLocale Crash.
• The provider has no access to your data.

4. Is data transmitted to third parties?

Without using the optional AI functions (see section 6), no content is transmitted to third parties.

Independently of this, system-level Apple features may process data, for example:
• iCloud backups, if enabled by you
• System-wide crash reports or diagnostic data, if permitted in macOS

These processes are outside the control of the app and are governed by your system privacy settings and Apple’s privacy policies.

5. Data security

BetterLocale Crash uses macOS security mechanisms, in particular:
• App sandbox
• Protected local file storage
• Apple Keychain for secure storage of API keys

If your device itself is secured (password, Touch ID, Face ID, FileVault), the stored data is protected against unauthorized access.

6. Optional AI features for crash analysis

BetterLocale Crash optionally offers the ability to analyze crash reports and stack traces using external AI services.

Depending on configuration, the following providers are supported, among others:
• OpenAI
• Claude
• Gemini
• Perplexity
• xAI

Use of these functions is voluntary and not required for the basic operation of the app.

6.1 What data is sent to AI providers?
When you use an AI function, only the content necessary for analysis is transmitted, in particular:
• An analysis instruction (prompt)
• A reduced, semantically relevant stack trace or crash excerpt
• Optional additional information created by you

The following is not transmitted:
• Complete local data sets
• Other crash reports
• Apple ID data
• License or payment information

You decide yourself whether and which data is sent.

Alternatively, you can use the app without direct AI integration. In this case, BetterLocale Crash generates a structured analysis instruction that you can run in any external AI client (e.g., ChatGPT) and then manually import the result into the app.

6.2 Responsibility of AI providers
Processing of transmitted data is carried out under the responsibility of the respective AI provider in accordance with its own terms of use and privacy policies.

Depending on the provider, processing may also take place outside the EU or the EEA.

Please inform yourself with the respective provider in particular about:
• Data retention periods
• Use for training purposes
• Safeguards for third-country transfers

6.3 API keys
If you store an API key in BetterLocale Crash:
• The key is stored exclusively locally.
• Storage is encrypted in the Apple Keychain.
• The key is used only for your own requests.

The app provider has no access to your API key.
You can delete it at any time in the settings.
When the app is uninstalled, stored keys are removed from the device.

7. Legal basis

Where personal data is affected, processing is carried out in particular:
• For providing app functions on the basis of
Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR (contract), or
Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR (legitimate interest in a functional developer app)
• When using external AI services, based on your initiated use and the associated transfer to the third-party provider
(depending on implementation, possibly Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR – consent)

8. Retention period and deletion

All data is stored as long as you keep it in the app.
• Crash reports and analyses can be deleted by you at any time.
• API keys can be removed separately in the settings.
• When the app is uninstalled, local app data is deleted.

9. Your rights

If personal data is processed, you have in particular the following rights under the GDPR:
• Right of access (Art. 15)
• Right to rectification (Art. 16)
• Right to erasure (Art. 17)
• Right to restriction of processing (Art. 18)
• Right to object (Art. 21)
• Right to data portability (Art. 20)

You also have the right to lodge a complaint with a data protection supervisory authority (Art. 77 GDPR).

Since the provider does not operate its own servers for your content, these rights in practice mainly relate to:
• Your locally stored data
• Processing by the AI provider selected by you

10. Trademark notices

Apple, macOS, Mac, and the Apple logo are trademarks of Apple Inc., registered in the United States and other countries.
