1. What is this app about?

BetterLocale Store is used to create, edit, and manage localized text and language files (for example, for Xcode and App Store metadata). The app is designed to operate without the provider’s servers.

2. What data does the app process?

In general, the app does not process personal data on its own (for example, no names, addresses, phone numbers, or device identifiers for tracking purposes). The app does not actively request such information.

However, content you enter may contain personal data if you include it yourself (for example, in descriptions or support text). Whether this happens is your responsibility. Please do not enter sensitive or confidential data unless it is necessary.

3. Where is your data stored?

All project and text data is stored locally on your device. There is no synchronization via the provider’s servers.

4. Is data shared with third parties?

If you do not use the optional AI features (see Section 6), BetterLocale Store does not transmit any content to third parties. The app provider does not have access to your locally stored data.

Note: Independent of this, Apple operating system features (for example, iCloud Backup or crash reports if you have enabled them at the system level) may process data. This is outside the app’s control and depends on your device settings and Apple’s privacy information.

5. Data security

The app relies on iOS/macOS security mechanisms (for example, app sandboxing, file protection/encrypted device storage, and Keychain for secrets). As a result, locally stored data is generally protected from unauthorized access, as long as your device itself is secured (passcode, Touch ID/Face ID, FileVault on Mac).

6. Optional AI features (translation and chat via external providers)

The app optionally allows you to process text via external AI services. Depending on your configuration, supported providers currently include OpenAI, Claude, Gemini, PerplexityAI, and DeepL.

These features are voluntary and are not required for the core functionality of the app.

6.1 What data is sent to the AI provider?

When you actively use an AI feature, only the content required for your request is transmitted, in particular:

  • an instruction for the task (prompt/system text), and

  • the texts or key-value pairs you selected to be processed.

Other app data is not transmitted, including project files outside your selection, Apple ID data, licensing information, or content to which you did not apply the AI feature.

Important: You decide which text is sent. Whenever possible, do not send personal data or confidential content. If you do transmit personal data, you must ensure you have an appropriate legal basis for doing so.

6.2 Who is responsible for processing at the AI provider?

Processing of data transmitted to an AI provider is carried out under the responsibility of that provider and subject to its terms and privacy notices. Depending on the provider, processing may also take place outside the EU/EEA.

Please review the chosen provider’s privacy information to understand:

  • how long data is stored,

  • whether data is used for training, and

  • which safeguards apply to international transfers.

6.3 API keys (tokens)

If you store an API key in BetterLocale Store, it is:

  • stored only locally on your device,

  • protected using the Apple Keychain, and

  • used solely to send your requests to the provider you selected.

The app provider does not receive this key and does not store it on its own servers. You can delete the key at any time in Settings. If you uninstall the app, app data and keys are removed from the device.

7. Legal bases

Where personal data is concerned, processing typically occurs:

  • to provide the app’s features (local processing of your content) based on Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR (contract/performance of a contract) or Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR (legitimate interest in providing a functional app), depending on the circumstances, and

  • when you actively use external AI services, based on your initiated use and the related transfer to the selected third-party provider (depending on the setup, consent under Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR may also apply).

8. Retention and deletion

The app generally stores content for as long as you keep it in the app. You can delete data at any time by removing projects or uninstalling the app. You can also delete API keys in Settings.

9. Your rights

If personal data is processed, you generally have the rights under the GDPR to access, rectification, erasure, restriction of processing, objection, and data portability (Arts. 15–21 GDPR). You also have the right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority (Art. 77 GDPR).

Because the provider does not operate its own servers for your content, many of these rights will, in practice, relate to content you store locally and/or processing performed by the AI provider you selected.

10. Trademark notices

Apple, iPhone, iPad, iPod, and iTunes are trademarks of Apple Inc., registered in the United States and other countries. The Apple logo is a registered trademark of Apple Inc.
